Thoughts of Summer Summer sings of long day Lost upon the beach Watching women catching rays Always out of reach Wimbledon on the television The sunshine allows the play The annual sport of split decisions Until sunset calls the end of day Spin dizzies fill the air Dandelions breath upon the wind Grass carpets neatly cut Water sprinklers refresh the emerald hair Ephemeral rainbows caught briefly In the waterfalls embrace Swimming pools catch the childhood screams Full of play and joy Lying on the beach Canute’s children Building sandcastles against the sea A summer job selling instant gratification An ice-cream dealer Is the best thing for me |
A Toothy Tale
I thought I saw a dinosaur As plain as it could be I’m sure I saw a dinosaur Creeping up on me But when I looked it had simply gone I’d never heard of such a feat Great big thumping dinosaurs Being so sneaky on their feet But as I turned to go my way I felt a tap upon my shoulder I’d never heard of a thing so strange Dinosaurs were getting bolder I turned again to find a toothy smile “Ahh” I said “Mr Rex” “What a gleaming pile you have, But you’re looking slightly vexed” “Ah ahh” ... said he to me There’s something I should tell Although some of us were meat eaters We liked vegetables as well But natural roughage and our five a day Created such a stink And gassed us all within our caves This is how we became extinct |
